Introduction
to Management is one of the five subjects that I have to take for my degree
course this semester. The lecturer for this module is Ms.Natasya Saat and my
tutor for this module is Ms. Ang Yen Yen. During my first day of lecture I was
actually pretty clueless of what to expect from this module, but as the days
passed, I think it started to become clearer to me. This course was basically
teaching how to become a better manager. The contents of this subject are
something similar to what I had taken when doing my Canadian Pre-U last year. (Not
the whole thing, just a few here and there).
As I started
attending more lectures and classes it started to become much clearer to me of
what I wanted to learn. I wanted to learn to become a better leader and even if
I can’t start of my working career as a leader, even as an employee I would
want to know the basics of how a management work. What I really wanted to learn
was how to become a good leader and what are the different types of leader in
today’s world. It made me more enthusiastic about this module as I would have
had the chance to relate and learn the type of management skills some of the
renowned leaders are using. Moreover I had expected to learn a bit more on
leadership and also motivational skills. I also wanted to learn more about
myself in this way as I would know in what kind of conditions I preferred
working what kind of people I would like to work with.
After 12
weeks my feelings towards the module might have changed. I feel that this
module is to dry and has a lot to memorize. Maybe because this mostly consists
of so many theories, principles and experiments that make me feel this subject
is to dry. Personally I feel that there is no one specific theory, which can be
applied to mold an organization. People change constantly and with that it
should have been clear that not one specific theory could be applied. However
though if they think if combining a few principles and this entire subject can
be said to be pretty important in life. Working life can be pretty hectic and
stressful thus the things we learn from management can give us a head start on
what to expect and how to deal with it.
